Slow starts
Art doesn’t need to be complicated to be meaningful.
Our Original Tones are made with high-quality pigments and a smooth consistency that allows our colors to flow easily across different surfaces: Canvas, paper or glass -wherever you want your ideas to land.
Because Art can be simple.
How to Start?
Working with our acrylic tones is simple once you understand a few basics.
1. Mix with water
Most of the time, you will want to mix your tones with a small amount of water before painting. This helps the color spread smoothly and allows the brush to move easily across the canvas.
Start with a small amount and adjust depending on the effect you want.
Less water 💧
The tone stays thicker and more intense. This works well when you want strong color or visible brush texture.
More water 💧💧
The tone becomes lighter and more fluid. This is perfect for softer layers, washes, or smooth blends.
2. Build Texture
You can build your painting gradually by working in layers.
Paint dries quickly, which allows you to paint over previous layers and develop depth, contrast, and light.
- Thin layers create smooth, even color.
- Multiple layers build richness and depth.
- More paint on the brush creates thicker strokes that catch light and shadow.
Over time, you’ll discover which balance of water, colour, and layering feels right for you.
Create new Tones
On our The Tones page, you’ll find every color available individually, so you can build your palette however you like.
However... if you are up to a challenge, you can also create your own colors. By combining tones in different proportions, you can create an almost endless palette.
Here are some classic combinations:
Red + Yellow → Orange
Blue + Yellow → Green
Blue + Red → Purple
Red + White → Pink
Blue + White → Sky Blue
Green + White → Mint
Red + Yellow + White → Peach
Yellow + Blue + a touch of Red → Olive Green
Red + Blue + White → Lavender
Red + Yellow + Blue → Brown
Small additions can completely transform a color and just a tiny change in proportion can create a completely new tone.
And that’s part of the beauty... Discovering the tones that make sense for you.
